Duplicate Detective 2 for Android

I usually use this app since it's one of the more stable ones out there and simple enough that it's honestly my go to. It doesn't have advanced features like matching by hash but that's ok, the low CPU usage and quick speed make up for it, and if you're looking for hash matches that can't be found by size matches then you've got other issues. The latest version though has a small issue , again, where it's supposed to be 10.0.13 but it reports 1.0.13 which is odd, so maybe a fix to that would be great (it's on the about place of the app, possibly other places).

First, I have to agree that the photo duplicate remover process is clunky. All I do I make a screen print of the instruction panel, and access on the DT as I go through the process. IT WORKS! Frankly, I consider this a real bargain for the power provided. Today, I searched for duplicates in two HDs and four directories. Perfection. I wanted to keep the good stuff in my master external drive. That required me to manually select some duplicates. Not hard. Simply select ALL, and let the down button scream through, and stop when you see selection change needed. You have to back up a couple of files that flew by. Make change and forge ahead. I have used a number of similar Android products over the years and this is one of the top two. Most, simply don't dive through the morass of subdirectories. All too often you get choices that are not true duplicates! DD-2 found duplicates that were buried in sub-directories. Did experience one problem. Asked for an assist from vendor and had a cogent response within an hour. Followed up with a screen image of the problem. Got a workaround, and it is being referred to developers.

I've used Duplicate Detective for many years and decided to "upgrade" to the latest version. I've had nothing but trouble getting this app to work. Some of the old features (keep all newest, keep all from dir xxx, etc) are no longer available. If they are, I've not been able to find them. When trying to cancel pending cleanup, the app just froze - had to "force kill" the process. It doesn't appear to be any faster, and I personally will stick with the original. There is also an annoying requirement that if your directory contains a photoslibrary file, the user needs to go through a clunky process in an attempt to remove duplicate photos - I've never gotten that to work. If anything, the developers should print a comprehensive instruction manual and as a bonus - how to do repeat processes on DD2 that yoou used to do on DD1.

Just purchased the app., but it will not work with the new HEIC format when a photo is edited from the original file format. (FIPLAB Support) Hi, Unfortunately there is not currently a way around this.

I have found numerous files moved to the trash by the app without a single copy retained in the original location. Fortunately, my mistrust for these apps led me to put precautions in place for verifying and re-verifying that the files removed are only duplicates and not all copies of those files (as is the case here). Potentially related to this is a prompt which pops up at unpredictable times for selecting "all copies of a file (including the original)" [paraphrasing for lack of reproduced prompt]. It gives the options to "not show this prompt again", "select all," and "cancel." When the "do not show again" checkbox is checked, it will still show again and again, regardless of whether you click "select all" or "cancel." The behavior of those two buttons is unclear, as it is impossible to track what it actually does unless it somehow pops up for a small scan. Lastly, after removing some files and selecting more for removal, the "remove" button will sometimes not be enabled. You need to "deselect all" to clear the internal state so that you can start selecting files again and get the button enabled. If you do not do this and eventually select a file which changes the button state, clicking "remove" will NOT remove any items which did not change the button state when selected. It is incredibly frustrating and leads to lost time. What happened with this app? It used to be solid. Or maybe it never was and I failed to catch it permanently destroying files.
