I use this app as a puzzle presenter/tester, using the excellent content you can download for it, for example, The Manual of Chess Calculation, Volumes 1 and 2, which, while written for Russian school children, it terrific content. MUCH MUCH BETTER than Puzzle Rush.
Very few problems to solve.
I’m not sure if the negative reviews were based on an earlier version, but for me the app is a good learning tool; multiple engines and levels of look-ahead capability, and variant tracking (and back-tracking) which open up more detailed analysis, plus a wide array of book problems and exercises for the student. Book openings are listed and weighted, although it would be nice to see the nomenclature (i.e. "Ruy Lopez", or "Sicilian Defense") listed as well. A minor point to be sure, but if one is less familiar with the algebraic notation the names are a help. And it’s AOK with Mavericks, which is what I’m running. Also like the “Setup Board” function to recreate game situations from the masters, then apply the engine’s analysis to see how perhaps the existing analysis may have missed something.
There are better options than this available elsewhere.
great for improving your chess skills
