We were talked into “upgrading” our Sonos system to an Elan system by our local smart home company. In the past year it has barely functioned. The app crashes, the app won’t connect to the music server, you start playing music and the app won’t reopen and you have to go into the crawl space to unplug the Elan server to stop the music. You can’t do anything yourself (change your Spotify password and need to update your login on Elan? That’ll be a service tech call.)There is zero wireless capability too. You need speaker wires running to the Elan server in your house.
This “automated” system doesn’t work more than it works. If there was a way or another option to change the integration, I would in a heartbeat. It’s so frustrating to use it on the pad at home and even more so from my phone, when I’m away. My poor tech men, must be so tired of hearing from us. Stay away!
Elan 8 was pre-installed in our new condo, bought a year ago. We use it only for security and climate control. We now get a message when we try to access the system that the “system controller cannot be found.” In other words the system is disabled. Can’t wait to find out what it will cost me to get a software fix.
My dear old parents have this system after moving to a new house. It is one problem after another and they end up dumping money into their local tech guy to keep it running. Every time they call me to ask for help I just wish to god nobody had sold them this system because the reality is their use-case does not call for such a system. The entire Elan experience feels like it’s from 2009. I can never, ever recommend this setup for your general consumer. If you want three words to describe this product: Finnicky, antiquated, unintuitive.
Had mine installed about 8 years ago. While the install was a disaster and I’ve had 3 installers, their products are just poor. Four years ago my expensive remotes died. They never worked well so I did not replace them. Two years ago, I lost access to my music server. Last year I lost Spotify. Now I just lost remote access. They keep telling me to buy new hardware and that will solve the problem. Like I am going to believe you? Not a chance! Run from this company!!!!!
