I LOVE the yoga and running downdog apps but this one wasn’t hitting the mark for me. Great options like with their other apps, but the topics didn’t quite match up with the focus. For example, I’d pick self confidence and the track would say, “let’s talk about music and how it relates to…” Also, with the sleep meditation, there’s no automatic shutoff so the background music will keep playing until you tap exit. That’s a programming miss there. I’ll stick with my other meditation apps for now and hope they can improve this one.
This is such an important part of my day. I began using it and practicing meditation during the pandemic, though my practice then was rather sporadic and inconsistent, and I used it primarily during work when things got to be too much at times (I work at a rape crisis center, answering a hotline and doing advocacy work). I really needed to get serious about my self-care before I burned out, and find a way to leave my work where it belonged without it interfering with my life outside of work. Lately, or for the past few months, I’ve been using this app in the mornings —first thing when I wake up, after a glass of water. I am proud to say that this is probably the most consistent self-care practice I have, and it has been life-changing. The guided meditations are really excellent, and provide such great insight into my own mindfulness and inner world. Since beginning my practice, I’m so much better at recognizing when I neglect myself emotionally and physically, I’m not quite so reactive and easy to anger and I find myself savoring moments with joy and compassion, willing to observe rather than attach myself to my emotions. All around this is a wonderful excuse to give yourself a small brake, just breathe and take care.
