I bought RC7 a couple of years ago, and used it for planes. Tried playing with helis a little but never got interested at the time. Recently went to the heli side of RC, and thought I would try this sim to learn. I have an older version of RF 5.5 on a PC, but their cheap controller is a joke. I prefer using my Spektrum DX6 Gen3 on a sim. I went to check for RC7 updates, and I was current with latest version. I thought I'd try the RC8 bundle upgrade. It has more aircraft options, and scenery options, but the camera options in RC8 are gone from the RC7 camera list. You no longer have the option for cockpit view, follow view, or side view. Very disappointed in this. Not sure if this problem might be from my graphics card, but during a “hard crash” the screen freezes, will not “reset” and all you hear is the motor trying to run. You have to “force quit” the app, then restart the app. this also didn’t happen with RC7 in the past. Also, when I set up a heli in the Advanced Controls, and I click on the SAVE button, I was counting on those settings being there the next time I use the app. They don't "stay" in your model for next time! This causes me to redo the settings each time. This is a PITA. I thought, OK, let’s "edit aircraft" and save them there. That sort of worked. But, when I create an edited aircraft, and switch from one "configuration" to another, the new configuration loses sound of the motor, and blade/thrust changes. You only hear the sound of when a crash occurs. The loss of the sound doesn't happen on all aircraft, but shouldn't happen at all. IMO So, I go back to RC7, start spending way too much time "testing" all these "differences" and trying to get this sim to work. It can't be changed there either. As with any app, there is no recourse for a refund. The vendors go deaf as soon as "the check cashes". Buyer beware ! Just sayin’…
I recently purchased a 2020 Android Mini with 16GB of unified memory. It works perfectly with all graphics set to max. Except for one that is set to "insane." My mid 2015, 15" Android, base model, would work fine with the graphics settings at default. However, the cooling fan would maxed-out pretty quickly. And stay on for the duration of play.
Just getting started with this simiulator, and it's been great so far. I can't write an in-depth review yet, but I did want to note that it absolutely does work with a DX6i controller. I saw another review to the contrary, but I went ahead and gave it a try anyway, and I've been very happy with it. I'm connecting the controller to my computer (Android 15-inch, 2019, running Mojave) by using the Spektrum WS2000 wireless dongle. Not having to deal with a cord is a nice bonus.
Before purchasing Aerofly 8 (Android) I contacted Aerofly to find out if my DX6i would work. The reply: "6/2/20 - Dear Sir, if you use #3031010 ($44.95 Amazon) in addition with adapter #31040 ($44.95 Amazon) you can use all 4 main functions and up to total 12 channels from you spektrum.” The result: After spending a total of $214.99 for Aerofly 8 plus the two recommend cables, plus several hours downloading, installing, troubleshooting and, communicating with Aerofly, I have a system that does not work with my DX6i as promised. Only 3 main functions and no channels are detected. In the early stages of lenghty email communications with Aerofly support as well as sending screen shots illustrating the problems I have encountered, Aerofly has apparently decided not to communicate with me any longer. They have not responded to my last two emails (June 16 and June 27). Bottom line: I have spent $214.99 for a program that does not perform as an R/C simulator using a recommended R/C controller. If you are looking for a very expensive video game which may or may not work with mouse, game controller, joystick and keyboard to fly a variety of R/C aircraft in a circle over a background image of various flying sites, this product may be for you. If you are looking for a R/C simulator, in my experience, it has been waste of money and time with no recourse to recover my costs.
Upgraded from RF7 to RF8. Works as expected. No frame rate issues, any only minor background tear on some 4d flights. Don't see that the VR is there just yet for Android. Would be 5 star if we had the VR support like PC does...
