The app so far seems fine in free mode. But my Android 13 Pro, with its awesome high-resolution cameras and ample storage space, is NOT allowed to take advantage of these capabilities when Driver is recording a trip. The video is frustratingly low-res. License plates are impossible to read on a saved video even on a clear day unless my car is literally only a few feet away. I would consider paying a small subscription fee for this app if high-resolution video was offered. But as it is now, the Driver app is unable to promote itself as a superior dashcam solution because all saved videos are low resolution and thus license plates are basically unreadable.
The camera would shut off and the record button doesn’t record.
I have been spending months searching for a dashcam and little did I know that I had one in my pocket this whole time. This app is so useful and trustworthy that I literally returned my Kingslim 4K camera just to use this. Top of the line when it comes to camera to phone integration because it’s literally your phone! One thing I noticed was that you have a partnership with GasBuddy and I was wondering if you’d also be able to make a partnership with PlugShare as well for EV drivers. Of course, all of this is being said with just a couple drives, so the freshness is still settling in. I’ll post any gripes about it later down the line if I have any!
App needs work. Consistently stops recording drive and does not notify the user. Another big concern is that the app disables you from utilizing your phone to make calls even through the vehicle such as Google car play. Big safety concern as I was unable to call emergency services.
This app is the perfect replacement for a dash cam. I bought a used Android 7 and installed this app so I could use the phone specifically for a dash cam. Phone didn’t cost too much, and the app is great and does everything you need it to. It cost me about $100 less than an actual dash cam, and honestly it’s way better than one. Especially cause the phone has its own screen/battery, so I don’t have to deal with an obnoxiously long power cable routed through my entire car or mediocre dash cam software/hardware.
