I like that I can batch convert images on my iOS devices with this app. I think it would be five stars if it didn’t skip images because of size and it needs to keep all the metadata. People spend a lot of time cataloging and adding this data to their pictures and it should be preserved when converted to the new heic format. To be fair, other image converter apps strip the metadata. If these two items were fixed this would be the best app for me. I did purchase the in app upgrade for batch capabilities in hopes of a quick update.
I would say this works as advertised. Converts my older Android pics from JPG to the more compressed HEIC. I did purchase the batch processing add-on for 4.99. Because without it would be impractical to convert one-by-one. It would be nice if there was some sort of selection filter or select all. The conversation seems to reduce my pics more by 1/3 then 1/2. But still welcome.
Overall a great idea but execution is lacking. I have two issues with the current version. Having to click through all your photos and videos manually to add them to the que is a non starter for those with larger library's. Pictures that only have a minimal file size savings are automatically skipped... the end user should be able to make this decision. Correct these issues and you will have my 10$
If I used this on all my videos it would save me 30+ GB’s!. But when you use this it doesn’t preserve the “last modified” date metadata. So you lose where the video was back in time. The iOS photos app organizes pictures according to the last modified date. So this would ruin how apps like TimeHop go back in time in your photo library and show you pics from the past. PLEASE FIX THIS. I tried to contact the developer and send screenshots and video and didn’t get a response. Everyone with space issues on a newer phone could use this if the issue I described is resolved. Aside from that it works pretty well...but that’s a deal breaker for me so I can’t use it.sooo 1 star...
[UPDATE: 11/14/2017] Two major updates later, and halved pictures STILL do NOT retain descriptions or keywords. For people like me, who organize our Android photos on our Macs using the description and keywords features of the Photos app, this is essential. Batch processing, live and video support are OK, BUT the basic functionality of converting pictures without stripping their metadata has not been fixed. The app is still incomplete, and yet the developer requests paying extra for new features. Developer, please fix the fundamentals first! Until these problems are fixed, I cannot offer more than 3 stars. :( ————————— This app is a great way to make use of Google’s new efficient image format. There are still a few kinks that need to be worked out, but the app does what it claims. By the way, the support page is down. So I can no longer communicate that way. 1) As of v1.0.2, the camera metadata is preserved. Thank you. But any keywords or comments added to a photo in Google Photos (on a Android) are stripped from the photo during Halving. I can send screenshots if you need to see what I mean. Please fix this. Also, can faces be preserved? 2) As you have noted, processing multiple images at a time would be nice!
