A, AA, AAA scoring still based on 2.0. As others have said, it did used to pick color accurately, but has since switched to showing an invalid color. I manipulated my monitor color scheme and confirmed that I get consistent picker results. It very literally thinks #6c = #7f, I think. When color pickers 'mess that up', it's usually because they grab the literal color (like pantone pickers, which are for art and make sense to do that) vs the rendered color. That's the reason I initially picked Contrast, because it was NOT grabbing the color based on my monitor color profile values, but grabbing a rendered value. But now it seems to be choosing a color at random, or from a limited color database... or something. So yeah, I have to move on and will now use inspector scores, since google added it recently, but thank you for providing this tool! It was very helpful when Accessibility testing was in its infancy. Hope you update it some day, since it was nice to use on comps and other text.
As others have stated, the color picker is not accurate. It sometimes picks up the wrong HEX #, which means the calculated contrast ratio is also completely incorrect.
This tool would be SO useful if it would report the correct colors and follow WCAG contrast ratio standard.
I used to love this tool. It no longer does what it is designed to do. Everything about it was great, but without being able to accurately capture colors it is no longer on my device as now I've opted for other apps to do the same task.
Found some cases where the app miscalculates contrast ratios (the app says 3.01, passing AA compliance, but the website correctly calculates 2.99 which is failing). Emailing their support email address just bounces back that the account doesn't exist.
