This is so limited and cumbersome and non-intuitive for copying fonts, visually changing bounding box, assigning and viewing UNICODE font numbers and figuring out the font indicies for glyphs. They name it glyphs like it would be useful for making actual glyphs like one might want for a phone app. But no, it's way too limited compared to FontLabs old TypeTool. Wasted a long time struggling with it. Features just aren't there or are extremely awkward to use. For example if import an OTF font assigned a UNICODE # in FontLab Glyphs renames it UNI000x with the UNICODE number but seems to lose the actual UNICODE value in the info window. Further, if I try to add to the font the letter A, with a fixed UNICODE value of 0x0047, then copy a glyph over to the A, the bounding box does not expand and there's no visual way to change it with the GUI. I mean kind of a disaster. I had TypeTool formerly before it was unsupported with Catalina. Rather than pay $400 to upgrade too Fontlab, I tried this product. However, trying to assign UNICODE and find and map font indices are an obtuse nightmare with Glyphs app, compared to TypeTool. I've struggled for over an hour with it, and it's $*@(@#$&!! So good luck just trying to create a simple font of glyphs as 'sprites' or whatever for your Android or iOS app like TypeTool was great for, and assign whatever unicode value you wanted per-font. This app is extremely disappointing. Had I known I would have bought something else. Just hard to believe they couldn't get something that essential and basic working properly in an intuitive way.
Overall, I've found Glyphs Mini 2 to be very powerful and a good price compared to competitors. Some settings and tools aren't intuitive at first but were easily figured out after reading a few tutorials. My one complaint is the description says there's a "Roughen" filter included but that doesn't seem to exist in this Mini version.
Update: The new version 2.0.2 (87) exports fonts correctly again. This is the best and easiest Font Creation App. The interface is very intuitive, it took me just few days to master all the basics of glyph creation, editing and transformations. I tried some other Font editing software before and while they are good in their own terms, nothing compare to the simplicity of this one. Being simple and easy to use is a huge plus when you deal with thousands of glyphs, plus you can separate your glyphs with colors in the background, kinda of a “tag” system. You can combine filters and colors (tags) to create powerful indexes for fast manipulating through a lot of glyphs. Make no mistake: this app is called Glyphs Mini but you can handle thousands of glyphs in other languages once you master the filters system. Unless you need a very specific feature of the full “Glyphs” app, this app is all you need to create whole and beautiful fonts.
