Myna for Android

One of my pet peeves is that when a window in an app is closed, but the app is still active, there seems to be no way to get a window open again. I literally have to quit the program to get it to open with a new translate window. What's more, the box is so BIG! There is no way to scale it to a reasonable size. Not sure why translation apps seem to assume that we are sight-impaired. But the WORST of all, I was in the state where I'd closed the translation window inadvertently, and I wanted to see whether there was a way to get it to open again as a sort of prerequisite for the option I had chosen. In this case, I selected "Swap Languages," an innocuous-enough sounding option, to see if it would bring up my last translation so I could carry on with it. Instead, it READ OUT LOUD ON MY SPEAKERS the last phrase I had translated, which, sadly, was not for polite company. Thankfully no one seems to have heard it. But what an embarrassment! There is absolutely no indication or warning that it would do this; the response has no relationship to the option I selected. With these faults, I'm very disappointed that I paid for this app. Its only benefit is that it appears in some - but not all - contextual menus via the Service submenu, but that is not enough, I think, to overcome the negatives. There is a potentially solid base of a program here, but there really needs to be some thought process behind how people are going to use it, and TESTING of some of these features! One more fault: Follow these steps: 1. Paste in phrase to be translated. Click Translate. Copy the translation using the built-in "copy" icon. It says "the translation has been copied." Then, if you want to confirm the translation (as I often do) by translating it back to the original, by hitting the bi-directional arrows at the top between the two languages, it shows the translation back to the original language from the translated one. But in so doing, it has also replaced the copied text in memory, with the original text (the untranslated), without telling you it has done that. This is just not a good program. Too many flaws in it, some of which are ridiculously bad.

Little better (in fact, it seems exactly the same) as using regular Google Translate on the web (at least there, you can have multiple tabs to fine tune mistranslations). I expected more for something paid for. It works, but I didn't receive $4 in value - "free" GT does exactly the same thing with a bit more flexibility.

Decent app to overcome a basic feature missing in Safari. Easy to use and I've been depending on it regularly. But having to pay for an application that should be built in like Google Chrome has is irritating to say the least.

A long time ago, before the internet, I studied and worked abroad, but lost my languages to the years. I discovered myna while trying to correspond with an old friend and regain my ability to read Swedish newspapers. It's really a gift. If I get stuck; it translates. If I enter a single word, it gives me a variety of translations in different contexts. Better than most bilingual dictionaries. If I am not sure that I am writing correctly, it can give a good translation. It's not perfect. At times, I have to try multiple formulations to get something that I recognize as a proper translation to Swedish. If I have something in a language that I am not very familiar with, I get some translations that are not correct, but most things seem to be right. But basically I can get a decent, but maybe not perfect translation of anything on the internet. And for $2.99? Are you kidding me?
