Updated review (initial review below) After years of usage I still enjoy very much the program. I am now up to 7000 cards on many subjects with pictures, sounds, etc and syncing is a breeze. I am truly impressed. And the very few times I needed to get support, they were responsive and efficient. ------------------------------------------- I had used Mental Case heavily and was happy with it so it took me a little time to switch to this updated iteration. No regrets. Syncing has been greatly improved. It’s not perfect but I’ve never seen any perfect sync from any apps. Nevertheless it is working well. As an anline plilot I have several thousands of cards on the airplane I fly, procedures, regulations… It does the job quite well. Syncing between Android/Mobile/Android makes it really convenient to keep the "same level" of scheduled studies between machines. And with the Android I can use any downtime (van to/from the airport, sits between flights…) to make progress on my scheduled learning/recurrent program. Great app! Thanks to the design team.
I am impressed by your software. I was struggling with Anki, and I felt like I was mislead by their advertisement. You have made learning french a reality for me.
*******************update 1 week I have confirmed the iCloud sync has problems. I have studies on my Mobile, computer, and Android. I mainly use the phone and computer. I have problems while using the computer app - the screen flickers and refreshes. While reviewing flashcards, the screen will flicker and sometimes it goes back several flashcards back. So I decided to turn off the sycn and then turn it back on and hope that it will save the more recent changes. I noticed however when I go to my Android later in the day, the flashcards aren't always where I left off. So I decided to finally test it. I kept the sync on my Android ON and turned sync off on my computer app. Then I went through a few flashcards, say up to 120, then I turned on the sync. I EXPECT that the app would figure out where the more recent changes occur and UPDATE the Android which I had not touched. I then checked my Android. I pressed the play button and the cards were still at 109. I forced it to sync now and the cards were still at 109. I went back to the computer and the cards were back to 109, with no evidence that I had gone up to 120. I expect this is what happened before and that the program has been WRITING OVER the more recent work. I wish that the developers would figure out a way for the apps to determine which is the more recent changes. I made NO CHANGES on my Android but that was still recognized as the more recent app. EVEN when I have the sync on on my computer, it still writes over. I have never gotten a response from the developer so I'm marking this as 1 star. Also because I lost hours of my life making edits that are gone forever. I played Disney's Emoji Blitz and at least THAT app asks me which version I want to use. I'm glad people like the app and rate it highly...but I wish that they would also investigate the app fully before giving it 5 stars. ********************update I am pretty sure the iCloud sync wrote over my flashcards...as in, I updated the cards on the computer...then I used my Android....then I went back to the computer and all my updates are gone. Thanks for nothing. One star deduction. ALSO, while I was going through the questions...the app would refresh and go back to the same flashcard. I had to turn off the iCloud sync. The developer might want to say maybe this is why I saw outdated cards...except I made updates on my computer, so the new version of my cards should be on the computer. My Android was off so it wasn't like I was making change on that and the computer app was trying to update. It was just going crazy with the sync. ********update Still buggy, but better. 1. When I edit flashcards, SOMETIMES the keyboard shortcuts stop working and I have to restart the program. 2. After editing a card to add a "facet" and then "continue study session" the facet does not appear, even after reordering it. I had to start a new study session and restart the study session for the facet to appear. Pros: I use this app because after syncing, I can ideally use the app without the internet. I haven't tried other flashcard apps in a long while, so maybe they have improved too, but this one is adequate for me.
I've used Studeis for a long time to study many different things. I've also tried out many different websites and apps. Nothing compares to Studies for me. It does the job and does it well.
I've been using Studies to learn Arabic and the multimedia facet support for the slides, not to mention the amazing desktop publisher that sync across all devices is invaluable. By the far the most superior digital slide based study guide.
