  • Such a great application!

I have a couple of older tv-movies, that have hungarian to english translated subs on opensubtitles, which are just horrible. So I'm doing it myself. I tried jubler and aegisub and a fre other free/trail applications - and they stink. Subtitle Edit Pro is perfect! Once you get a hang of the shortcuts, I'm getthing though an ENTIRE 2 HOUR MOVIE in a few hours. The split and merge functions are indespensible. Sliding the timelines around is so easy. I even had a question and Liu got back to me in 2 days! Yeah - it's $30, but it's not a subscription model, and $30 is a very fair price (given the projects I'm working on). Couple of video bugs here-and-there, but they are solvable and don't even take away time from my workflow. Liu Bin has created a near perfect application for a problem on Macs that don't really have much good software. Thank you!

  • This app is misnamed

Pro means “professional,” but here it stands for little more than “promise" at present. This is an exercise in interface building and I think the author got distracted by getting that right; and some existing features ARE cool- defining a subtltle against its waveform, dragging the edge of a title clip updates the timecode start or end. A characters per line count can be enforced- that’s good. But for those users who need to load an existing .SRT file into SEP for editing, many basic features missing: - Ability to stop/ start playback via SPACE BAR. Instead, this is mapped to some text editing command. Body memory, if the authors understand the concept, should echo space bar taps from any number of video playback apps. It’s encouraging to see JKL applied but it doesn’t behave as expected. One is enslaved to the mouse. - Ability to select long continuous groups of titles to shift them back or forward to their correct talking points would be very valuable. I tried this several times, to no avail. It should be soup simple to achieve this move, using SHIFT to extend a group, then drag, or copy/paste! I see very few indications that the Macintosh interface and API’s have been leveraged for this. - Markers in the timeline to guide editors to clip drag or paste-points with SNAP capability would be expected. - Export formats. Since the popular .SRT format is supported, one should be able to convert to other formats. All the other popular formats for open and closed captions and formats (.scc, .mcc,.stl, etc) should be supported for export as sidecars. This app is Subtitle Edit. With more fundamental features, mappable keyboard commands, the word “Pro” will mean something. Then the program will be worth US$50.00 or more! At this juncture, it’s a frustrating toy. Best, as always, Loren

  • Bug

This program worked fine when I first got it but now I can't change the font color and I need to use the program now and not wait for a response from the creator who no doubt is on the other side of the world in a different time zone sleeping
