I don’t know what’s happening with the Hue apps but this app and the Hue Sync app just stopped working. I have deleted and reinstalled multiple times and they both get stuck on the first screen. And no I will not leave you a message on your FB page. Please fix! One star until it’s corrected.
Lately every time I open the hue app to control the lights in my house, i keep getting full screen popup ads in the way!!! I paid for your light bulbs already, let me use them in peace. To make matters worse the ads take forever to load and are on a delay, so I think I’m going to be able to turn on my lights and then boom and ad starts loading and I have to wait for it to finish loading and then figure out how to close it and then wait for the slow ad to finally close before I can turn on my lights. It’s so intrusive and obnoxious.
This app has been terrible since they did their big app overhaul. It used to be logical and easy to use. Now small things are tedious. Every time I’ve used this app (multiple times per day, every day) since the change, I am reminded how much I hate it. We feel trapped since we have our entire house kitted out with Hue crap.
So I got the bulb and I love it. Endless amount of scenes and colors. It took me about 4 hours tonset up after I read every where that it’s plug-play. It’s not. There is a technical step that does not get much attention and that is, it’s MUST be connected directly, not through any Ethernet hubs, directly into your modem. Which will then hog an Ethernet port for either your system in the house or in my case, just one bulb. This is very inconvenient. I searched everywhere and can’t find any products they don’t do this. I can’t no longer use this set up, and will be shopping other companies that are more flexible. I gave her three stars because the product is amazing and the functionality is incredible but it lost two stars because of how it connects. I hope they change this.
Update: Yep, still an awful app, and an awful company that *requires* you to update software/firmware or you cant use/manage YOUR lights. If your internet happens to be down well too bad for you to locally use your lights OR do a FORCED update to use your lights. And now more TOS changes or we can’t use your product. That we paid for. This company is simply ridiculous. I can’t wait for these bulbs to stop working so I can get away from this company. If only they’d fully reimburse existing customers. It wasn’t like this when I originally bought these lights, which I now regret. I *absolutely hate* companies that do mandatory updates and prevent you from using the product until you do. With some apps I get there may be a very infrequent critical security update, thats actually for a critical app. But not this one. My schedules have not run, leaving my external lighting off, due to the latest MANDATORY update. Unless I check who knows how long this goes on. Not something I should have to do. Like many others here I dislike the new version immensely. Perhaps your company should reach out to, say, your customers, for what features they want or don’t want. And the GUI seems to have zero thought into what someone who actually uses the software would want it to look like and function. The people who actually pay your salaries should matter more to you. And to clarify that for you I mean your customers. Original review I’m not interested in your bad marketing practices. I’m not interested in your data mining and selling. I’m not interested in constantly having to opt out of things. These are lights. LIGHTS! Stop with all the customer-hostile updates. We PAID you, exorbitantly, for your products. Develop and release software that ONLY supports the functionality of these products. That we paid you for. Really, really hate that this company FORCES updates
