Reviews

  • Slow

When it goes off it is slow to push an alert to my Android and equally slow to mute the alarm. The history feature is almost broken, it doesn’t tell me how far back it goes because I see past alerts are missing.

  • Pairing

I have tried 2 different devices and can’t get them recognized. Turned on and off Bluetooth. Reinstalled the devices. Cut the power to them and back on. Tried pressing the button 5 times to link them and nothing.

  • Just aweful

All the other reviews are true! This has to be the worst IoT app I have ever used. Literally every step of the setup fails and needs to be re-tried multiple times.

  • Push Notifications Obsolete

First Alert needs to check their latest app update. We had a false alarm due to some smoke from cooking. We received ZERO notifications that an alarm was going off and there is still nothing showing in our app that an alarm was ever triggered. It must be something with the latest operating system. Considering what we paid for these alarms, it is pretty disappointing that they don’t have updates ready to go when the new iOS gets released.

  • Extremely dangerous life threatening product!

Do NOT purchase any products manufactured by FirstAlert! This app is a good indication about FirstAlerts priority around your safety: They don’t care. At first blush, the fire/smoke/CO2 devices seem like a good idea when it comes to home protection. Who wouldn’t want to get an alert if a detector senses smoke/fire/CO2? Except this is a deception. The application layer that maintains these devices and allows you to program, control and monitor them is severely flawed and has been for many years. YEARS. For a product that is supposed to save your life in the event of fire/smoke/CO2. Think about it: You install the device, connect it to your home network and see it in the app (and Apples HomeKit app). Feeling safe? Seems so. Until the devices sense a fire when there isn’t one, thusly setting off the other detectors throughout the house. Sure, it was a false alarm. Hey that happens. But what happens when there IS an actual fire/smoke/CO2 and the device does NOT detect it at all? You die Lucky for me, I was paying attention. I was in my shop, working on a carburetor rebuild when an overhead light popped, right over the bench. I was 10 feet away at the car when it happened. The carb was in a tray as I had just taken it off the manifold so there was gasoline in the tray. When the light popped (xenon does this), the hot filament pieces hit the tray and the fuel ignited. The smoke detector is directly over the bench. Lots of flames and smoke…I put the fire out in about 15 LOOONG seconds. Very little damage because it was contained in a metal tray. I ran the exhaust fans to clear the smoke and that’s when I noticed that my FirstAlert OneLink Model 1042136, manufactured Feb 2021 did not go off. It definitely should have with the amount of smoke in the room. I brought it down and put it on the bench to examine it. It looked okay…I opened this OneLink app and it showed my Shop Smoke/Fire/CO2 device was OK in green. I requested a test from the device menu. Nothing….(others went off In the house but not this one) hmmmm I pressed the physical test button on the front of the device: Nothing. I pressed it 5 times: nothing. Wow. Okay…I took the battery pack out and tested with my multi-meter (Fluke…I don’t mess around with cheap meters)…the meter showed 3.320vdc which is optimal. Device appears unresponsive. Checked the connection to the battery. Seems fine. Yet the app said “OK” in green with a “Last Checked 3W” underneath. So…it last checked in three weeks earlier…said it was okay like the other detectors. It wasn’t. Folks: This is unacceptable. You and/or your loved ones can be injured or worse, killed. It isn’t worth it. If you bought these devices, please remove them from your home immediately and purchase replacements that are NOT FirstAlert branded devices. FirstAlert does not care about your safety. This app and all of the negative reviews should be proof. FirstAlert: I attempted to reach out to you via the support feature in the app. You never got back to me. Don’t play around with other peoples lives and start taking this seriously. Either pave over this app with something that actually works 100% of the time or take it down and fold your “smart home” division back to development (and fire the director of devops) and the QA team. One of these days, someone is going to be killed by your negligence with this app. You can’t say you didn’t know. You’ve now been informed.
