Firstly I want to say that I feel almost guilty for leaving a 2 star review on anythng another person worked on. Secondly, out of fairness, I should say that I am not 100% new to using photo editing apps, but for all intents and purposes, based on my skilll level and very minimal knowledge of the vocabulary used within photoshop and comparable programs, I consider myself a beginner. This tutorial is very clearly directed toward beginners and I was clear in that before purchasing it. I have not used affinity at all so I was hoping this would open some doors for me or perhaps teach some of the basic vocabulary. Each video, approx. 3-4 minutes each, walks the viewer through a very simple process such as adjusting levels or white balance. I feel that a begginner could open the affinity application and learn just as much if not more by simply noodling through each tool or menu for about the same amount of time as the videos. I got the feeling when watching the videos that they were not particularly planned as another review has stated. There was a bit of fumbling through some of the options which gave me the overall impress that the person I was not learning from a professional. overall this is one of the first times I’ve actually felt frustrated in a purchase from the app store. I took a leap because it seems everyone is charging for tutorials for the new Affinity app. Affinity has some good tutorials of their own on vimeo but they are advanced features and nothing really caters to the beginnger. If you have never opened a photo app in your life you might find this tutorial minimally helpful but overall i still feel the value is nowhere near comparable to the $9.99 price and you should look elsewhere.
I have to congratulate you for trying to be the first tutorial for such a great application as Affinity Photo is. If you keep working in making a professional tutorial, these are some steps you must need to be successful; - You must have a written scheme, layout and speech for each feature of AP (Affinity Photo), where you will create a specific result, from beginning to end, without hesitation. - You may have just one Photo that you will work through all the features of AP, having a professional, user friendly, practical and realistic workflow. - The videos must show a clear explanation of all the options in each feature. If you do not have knowledge of what an option does, well, skip this feature, until the next tutorial you could make. Even though, it is a nice idea to have tutorials for AP & AD (Affinity Designer), it must be done professionally and good. The developers of these applications are made many videos, showing (in a professional way) many features and ideas to do with these great Apps. For FREE. I agree, they are explained really fast, but to the point and well explained. Your tutorial is just wondering around each feature, and guessing. Telling us repetitive "you should try and try, and let’s see …." THAT’S what everybody is doing now. We need more especific directions, explanations, goals and results. don’t charge for this kind of work you did. Specially $9.99. I know I won’t get a refund for my purchase, so I don’t even try to ask for, but please, everybody get what pay for, and charging $0.99 for the idea of making a tutorial, it’s the only good in your app. I appreciate if you can make an update for this Tutorial for FREE to the persons who have bought it so far, including me, so we can feel we get something for what we paid for. very disappointed customer.
