Heaven Burns Red for Android

The story is everything you’d expect from Jun Maeda and Key - I haven’t even gotten very far into the game but there’s an emotional core and some hilarious comedy that got me invested like no other gacha game has been able to do for the last 5 years. It’s great. The fanservice is also on the low end for a gacha game which is always appreciated. (Also, I wouldn’t say it’s gay. There’s a lot of comedic girl on girl flirting, but it’s all hilarious and obviously not to be taken seriously.)

If/when this is ever changed, I’ll change the review. But for now, one star, because they only allow Google as an alternative sign-in option. I signed in with Google on my PC and thus I can’t get into that same account on my phone. Very disappointing as I love this game.

If you like yuri and angst and gay protagonists and really snappy Azumanga-Daioh-like 2000s-style anime humor and having your heart ripped out of your chest and stomped on repeatedly, this is your game. Also Ruka and Yuki should kiss. Do it writers, I know you want to. (seriously, the fact that no one but me has mentioned how incredibly through-the-roof gay this game is is a crying shame) And yes, Yuki is definitely the best

Wow. I expected a slightly cinematic gacha game with a cool art style, and got an incredible visual novel with combat, exploration, and interactive characters. This game not just raises the bar for what gacha storytelling can be, it puts other games to shame. The writing, voice acting, character development, and strategy on top of it all actually blow me away. I couldn’t recommend this game any more. Play it, read, marvel, enjoy.

Do yourself a favor and go in blind and just enjoy the writing and characters. Forget about the gacha and meta for now and just enjoy the story.
