I tried this app with several different photos and found it pretty much worthless. The image you see in the app is not what you get when you save it. I even tried several different modifications and the images looked exactly the same once I saved them-- and nothing like the image in the app viewer. What is even worse, if you use the the shadow or light paint feature, the saved version gives you an image with a series of blobs and blips where you 'painted'. Don't waste your money on this app.
This version of Film Noir is quite simple to use even for a novice graphics manipulator like me. I'm frequently called upon to make comparisons on a color original, a classic black and white, a dark sepia, a summer tint, and an old paper effect. This is so the editors of a small publishing effort can choose the best photo style for their essays. I got it for a steal on Appy Fridays and am glad that I picked it up! One distracting note: the "save as" functions always gives you a blank selection screen, so you're forced to enter new text everytime instead of being able to select a variation on a theme. All in all, well worth 4 stars.
Film Noir has a streamlined interface that, with a few clicks, allows you to easily generate B&W, sepia, or other duotone images. The presets allow you to generate these images with one click, and there is also a way to modify these presets if you want to experiment with other looks. While the interface is quite simple, the quality of the results are comparable to other (larger and higher-end) photo-editing applications. Incidentally, I've used a variety of IDimager tools over the years, and I have always had a good experience with them.
Film Noir gives you a wide variety of presets to play with. After that, you can continue making changes in the "dark room" panel, by adding standard filters used for black and white photography, dodging and burning for dark/light and shadows, etc. The interface is easy and intuitive and you can save in a variety of formats. Excellent for the price.
