Currently I have 6 apps by JixiPix. I love them all and use each one frequently but Portrait Painter is by far my favorite. I'm just so impressed and happy with the results I'm getting. On a side note. I love the dark interface in all of the JixiPix apps I have and hope they never change it!
I really liked this little app because it stretches my budget for my ebook covers by changing the look of photos. The quickest way to get an oil painting look is to drag a photo to the square and use the randomizer (dice in upper right corner). Get a look you like and save it to a jpeg.
Can't completely remove or gradually dial in effects. Otherwise a good idea for an app. Also, on smaller images, the effect is too far overdone and you are not able to dial in the amount of effect applied.
I tried a handful of JixiPix apps (this, Simply HDR, Aquarella, and Pop Dot Comics), and this is by far my favorite. Like all of Jixipix products, you are given a bunch of presets at the bottom of the screen to choose from. Once there, you can use the sliders to the right for fine-tuning the result. Then just save the resulting image (which will take a moment or two) and create a resulting image with a larger file size than the original - I've been seeing a general run of twice the original file size. But what beautiful images these results are. And not just for portraits; I've popped in some landscape images with results that literally took my breath away (audible gasp). I wish I could paint like this. I wish all apps could be this good.
The Options are not powerful , your picture will end up to be a crude painting with heavy and I mean heavy lines / brush strokes . It needs to be refined so the brush strokes are finer and the colors not as circus like .
