Yes, the UI lacks polish but the responsiveness of the city is fantastic!
Broken. Won't take photos.
Great idea; lousy implementation. Home screen simply says "Submit a request." A request for what??? Following screen lists surfaces. OK, this must be for graffiti. Why not say the request is for reporting graffiti??? Next screen says "Take photos." If you click the camera icon, you can take a photo, but be warned: If you get the fatal error later on, "Failed to upload," your photo has not been saved, and you have to start over, including taking another photo. Also, the camera icon does not allow you to use any of the phone's camera options, such as flash or lighting. It's much better to use the phone's own camera app and then import the photo into the SJ Clean app (use the "Photo" icon instead of the "Camera" icon. Next you get to write a "Helpful Note." At least that works, but again, if you get the "Failed to Upload" error, your note is lost and you start over... Next, you get a map of your location. No instructions, but it's not hard to figure out that you move the map to set the crosshair at the graffiti's location. Finally, you get to enter your name, email, and phone number. Then, after all that, you get a summary screen and can press submit. I have submitted requests for three separate graffiti incidents using this app, and every time the app has "Failed to Upload." Using a home wifi connection makes no difference. Leaving the app running, hoping that it will successfully upload, makes no difference. There is no indication whether the upload is still running or has succeeded until some hours later when the error message "Failed to Upload" pops up. This app should be called a crapp.
This app is remarkably easy to use to report graffiti in San Jose, and the city cleans it up really fast! The area around my workplace looks considerably better since I used this app to report all the graffiti.
One problem with this app is that when an issue is out of their jurisdiction, they tell you to contact the other city. This is fine if you were reporting an issue in New York.... I get it. But,... If you are reporting an issue in Los Gatos, a town over, I am sure they know the right people over there better than we ever would?
