I installed the Astrill VPN client after several recommendations from friends and colleagues in China. Download and install the App with no problems. I create an account and see a 7-day free trial offer., sounds great I sign up. Send codes, set password, ready to go! Connecting… Unknown Error Back Connecting… You are logged into Astrill on another device… (message doesn’t make sense because its only installed on one device) … logging out and try again Repeat the steps Spend the next hour troubleshooting by myself and later with tech support in live chat. Support chat tells me that Unknown Error is being generated by the OS and that they can’t help me. A few messages later suggests that I escalate by emailing support through the website. I do this, restate the errors that I am receiving and the devices that I am using. A little while later I get a very unexpected email. “Unfortunately, we are not offering a free trial at the moment. You can buy our shortest plan for 1 month (25 USD) and test our services. Rest assured, we have a stable connection and have been serving clients for over a decade now.” “Hi , We no longer provide trials. If it was activated automatically by our system and it disabled the trial. Unfortunately, you will need to purchase a subscription to continue using the VPN service.” Come on guys, you need to get it together. Your client application allows a new user to apply for a 7-day trial, get approved, see it reflected in their account and the app interface. Support isn’t aware of the issue and can’t help. You’re telling me that your app is great and has stable connections but your client allows new customers to sign up for services that are intentionally disabled. Have a bit of humility here and realize that you’re still selling a product. Do you think that I just want to throw $25 at a product when the first user experience that I have is so poor?
